A large percentage of aluminum bronzes bushings and bearings contain from 0.75% to 4% Iron. The iron content increases the strength by refining the grain structure. This alloy has a higher tensile strength and greater toughness and ductility than ordinary tin bronzes. The iron content also improves the machinability of the alloy, allowing us to provide you with a bearing or bushing that meets your exact specifications even when a complex design is required.

Manganese bronze bearings and bushings are used when a good combination of outstanding wear characteristics and high bearing strength are called for in applications that include slow speeds and heavy loads. Rated excellent for being hot formed, this is an excellent alloy for sand-casting.

We manufacture usung the following alloys:

CDA SAE Typical Chemical Composition % Typical Applications
86300 430B 60-68 Copper, .5 Nickel, 2-4 Iron, 3-7.5 Aluminum, 2.5 to 5 Manganese, .2 Tin, .2 Lead Slow Speed, Heavy Duty Bearings and Bushings
86500 43 58 Copper, .5 Tin, 39.5 Zinc, 1 Iron, 1 Aluminum Slow Speed, Heavy Duty Bearings and Bushings

Of all the standard copper based bearing alloys, aluminum bronzes exhibit the highest strength. This is due the strengthening ability of aluminum. Typically, as the aluminum content increases, the strength of the alloys increases.

Another important feature of aluminum bronze bearings and bushings is their strength at higher temperatures. Aluminum bronze bearings and bushings can resist severe impact loads quite well even when the impacts are repeated. This is due to aluminum bronze having the highest fatigue strength of all bronze alloys. The high fatigue limit is considerably greater than that of manganese bronzes.

Aluminum bronzes are corrosion resistant in a wide variety of substances, including pickling solutions. In many applications, aluminum bronze is better suited and is superior to stainless steel with respect to corrosion resistance. In addition, the aluminum bronze alloys exhibit properties including: non sparking, shock and wear resistance, high strength, good performance at very low and very temperatures. Additionally, a lower density than steel and other copper based alloys, aluminum bronze weighs less in selected applications.

When quality, reliability, customer service, short lead times, and quantities large or small matter to your business, Ryder-Heil is your bronze bearing supplier of choice. Contact us today with your bronze bearings needs and we will work to exceed your expectations and provide the part you require.
