High Leaded Bronze Bushings and Wear Plates

High Leaded Bronze Bushings and Wear Plates

We welcome small quantity orders!

When a machine is cycled often, high leaded bronze bushings and wear plates are often used. Due to the softness of the material, they are limited to low load carrying and low operating temperature environments. Typical maximum temperatures are in the 400-450°F range. The high lead content in this bronze alloy exhibits the capability to embed foreign particles and aids in the resistance of scoring and seizing of shafts.

Ryder-Heil supplies high leaded bronze bushings and wear plates using a variety of alloys including the following:

C93200, C93500, C93600, C93700, and C93800

High-leaded bronzes are typically used for general applications that operate at medium loads and speeds. The strengths and hardnesses of these alloys are somewhat lower than those of the tin bronzes but this group of leaded alloys have excellent antifriction and machining properties. High leaded tin bronzes have the best lubricity characteristics but the lowest strength.

The differences among these individual alloys are minor and are shown below.

CDA SAE Typical Chemical Composition % Typical Applications/Capabilities
93200 660 83 Copper, 7 Tin, 7 Lead, 3 Zinc Wide range of applications, more specified than any other alloy
93500 66 85 Copper, 5 Tin, 9 Lead, 1 Nickel High Speed, Lightly Loaded with Ligh Pressure
93600 664 80 Copper, 10 Tin, 10 Lead
93700 660 80 Copper, 10 Tin, 10 Lead Good strength, corrosion resistant in mildly acidic environments. Good for high speeds, high loads, high shock, and high vibration applications. Lead component allows for use in applications where lubrication could be interrupted. Must be used on hardened shafts. Lead also makes this alloy easy to machine.
93800 67 78 Copper, 7 Tin, 15 Lead Better lubricity capabilities, less strength. Dirt particles embed easily, conform easily to irregularities in shaft. Unhardened shafts OK. Machinability is excellent due to lead component. Not for use under high loads or impacts are anticipated. Used extensively in heavy industrial, earth-moving, and off-highway equipment.

In short, the bronze alloys we typically cast offer a broad range of strength, low friction, hardness, wear resistance, ductility, tolerate dirty operating environments, have anti-seizing properties, the conformity to irregularities, as well as tolerate contaminated lubricants. Corrosion resistance of these same bronze alloys typically exceeds that of other popular bearing materials. Additionally, a wide range of operating tempatures ranges can be accomodated. The machinability of leaded and high-leaded bearing bronzes exceeds all other bearing materials.
